Brother Taylor not only serves the church, but has served his community and city for eight (8) years at City Councilman for District 7 from 1997 - 2005. His future goal is one day to return to public office. He serves on several boards. He is presently chairperson for the Office of Multi-Cultural Affairs, member of John A. Gupton College, Southwestern Christian College Alumni Association of other local and state organizations.

John has a entrepreneur spirit and enjoys the business arena. He is the founder and president of Taylor Funeral Home of Chattanooga, Scales Funeral Home, Inc., and Renaissance Urban Development, LLC.

God has blessed him with a wonderful family. He has been married to Anita (Dinkins) Taylor for nearly 20 years and has been blessed with two wonderful children, John R. Taylor, Jr. and Andrew Taylor. He is the son of Brother Carl Taylor, Sr. and Sister Mary Taylor.

On February 8, 1970, he obeyed the Gospel of Jesus Christ and has been running for Him ever since. His father was his mentor at Avondale Church of Christ, where he assisted in preaching and in the Education Department before working with the East Third Street Church of Christ.

God has allowed me to serve and work with some of God's most beautiful, talented and spiritual people of East Third Street Church of Christ. Since serving at East Third Street Church of Christ, I truly have been blessed and have grown spiritually. They saying is true, "That if we work together there is nothing we can't do, if we set our mind to it."

We must always strive to keep our eyes on the prize if we are going to make it to heaven. We must not, nor can we, ever forget our mission; which is to save the lost, strengthen each member, and prepare them for our destination.

My prayer is that we will allow God to use us in a mighty way for His praise and His glory.
